To strengthen the Netherlands Red Cross team in Cote d'Ivoire, the department is looking for an Ebola communication and WASH specialist

Position title: Ebola communication and WASH specialist
Duty station: Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire , with possible travel to Benin and other countries in the region of West Africa in Ebola pre-epidemic and epidemic phases
Time period: 3 months, with possibility of extension
Starting Date: 1st December 2014
Status: Single


Rationale

The current Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa is unprecedented in terms of the number of cases, deaths and its geographical spread. Netherlands Red Cross is currently contributing with funding and human resources to the IFRC Ebola response operation in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea Conakry and it also supporting National Societies in West Africa bordering with Ebola affected countries on Ebola preparedness activities. Cote d'Ivoire, due to its borders with Liberia Guinea and Mali, is considered as facing an increased risk of having to deal with Ebola cases.

Summary statement and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support the Cote d'Ivoire Red Cross (CRCI) in implementing their Ebola preparedness and response activities and ensure quality of the interventions through regular monitoring and support field visit.

Support the National Ebola Team Leader in Preparedness and Response activities

• Supports National Societies to maintain and update Ebola contingency plans, budgets, manuals and standard operating procedures (SOP) by utilizing national and international regulatory guidelines and IFRC requirements

• Supports National Society staff by mentoring and conducting regular field visits to implement work plan goals and monitor progress. When necessary, links up to the Resilience Advisory Unit (RAU) for sectorial technical support (WASH, Health, DRR).

Supports Ebola related emergency preparedness and response training, including simulation exercises with RC staff and volunteers, government agencies, other agencies involved in WASH, and public health and communities in high risk areas. Ensuring adequate training is given to Red Cross staff and volunteers to be able to conduct the following;
dignified and safe burial of possible Ebola victims,
house and waste disinfection,
to trace and monitor contact of suspected or confirmed Ebola patients on an adequate and safely manner...
